I have a great Canon 580EX II flash and for it I have purchased some basic equipment in the way of a stand, umbrellas, etc. so that I can do some lighted pictures on the go, in the field, etc.

The other day I came across an old Promaster flash I purchased about 8-years ago.  I was considering buying the stand, umbrella, etc. for this flash so that I could have two lights for those in the field moments, but I'm confused about this set-up.

Is it generally ok to mix strobes/flashs from different manufactuers?  I will be using them in manual mode only so I'm not worried about any connectivity issues, but I don't know if there is any reason why it's better to stick with a single brand.

I know it sounds a bit dumb to ask, but that's why we have forums on the Internet!

Thanks anyone.
