1  Cameras and Photo Gear / Canon / Re: New DSLRs on: August 27, 2011, 07:22:37 pm
One would hope that Canon sees fit to improve the AF in the 5D3 based on the volume and degree of gripes that 5D2 users have produced.

AF is the one big thing that jumps out at me.

4  Cameras and Photo Gear / Accessories & Other Gear / Re: Card readers on: August 20, 2011, 07:02:50 pm
I'm not aware of anything that would cause you to get a faster transfer speed just by changing card readers.  Or at least that would be worth the cost of switching between USB 2.0-type card readers.

6  Cameras and Photo Gear / Nikon / Nikon D700x Catalog Entry on: May 11, 2011, 10:35:04 pm
Chalk this one up with a grain of salt...

RiceHigh posted a catalog entry that has the D700x listed with what appears to be a 24.6MP sensor.  See the photo below for a shot of it.  A little Googling led to the catalog entry page, which doesn't appear to be a Nikon-issued catalog, so it could just be the vendor looking for a bit of attention.

Are you shooting a lot of sports/action?  (Your kit seems to be set up well for that.)  If so, I can understand the autofocus concerns, which makes the 7D a reasonable consideration at this point.  I don't know that the AF accuracy is greatly enhanced over the 40D though - speed definitely is though.

I think you've got good points on both sides, which is why I guess you are seeking advice.  I'm guessing that you don't feel a need for any wide glass in your kit?

The 40D has been around for nearly 4 years, which is an eternity in DSLR years.  Kudos for sticking with it and not feeling the "need" to upgrade already.  If you've hung with the 40D this far, I figure that picking up the 7D will get you through til the next opportunity to upgrade.

I know none of this is a direct answer to your question, but that's a decision that only you can make. Hopefully, it's a little more food for though.  I think you are justified with either decision.

How are you planning to use your camera?  What subjects will you be shooting?

Eric was wondering how to post photos only thing i found was using flicker, is there any other way to post  Smiley

You can upload small images under 128KB by clicking the "Additional Options..." menu below the post input window. It will look like the one I've uploaded to this post.

You can also embed photos directly from other locations on the web using the same process as in the Flickr tutorial.  Just right-click the image and choose "Copy Image Location...) and then paste the image location where the Flickr URL would otherwise go.

I dig it - has a nice abstract quality to it.
11  Cameras and Photo Gear / Nikon / Re: Nikon D7000 portrait photography portable studio on: April 14, 2011, 12:38:33 am
At this time I only have my Canon flash with some cheap wireless electronics, a 9-foot stand, Manfrotto connector and a couple of umbrellas.  This off-camera lighting stuff is hard.

Yeah, but it sure looks pretty...
12  Cameras and Photo Gear / Sony / Sony A35 Coming New SLT Camera? on: April 03, 2011, 03:25:49 am
Sony Netherlands posted a link that listed the A35 as a "new model;" however, the linked info was only in relation to general SLT cameras.

Could just be a typo, but the Sony Alpha Rumors folks seem convinced that its a leak/hint at a new model to replace the A33.  http://www.sonyalpharumors.com/sr5-sony-a35-leaked-on-sony-netherland/  Again, no specs though.

Screen cap of the A35 banner is below.
13  Cameras and Photo Gear / Canon / Delayed Canon Lenses Expected Next Month on: April 02, 2011, 10:28:37 pm
I had a tip from a person who has sent some reliable info in the past saying that the Canon lenses delayed due the Japan earthquake might arrive as early as May 2011.

See this post for news about the delay: http://www.photographybay.com/2010/11/02/canon-delays-ef-8-15mm-300mm-and-400mm-lenses/

That, in fact, the production is not the problem, but rather the shipping of the lenses is where the hold up is at.  Because of the blocked roads near the plants, Canon can't get the lenses out.  The lenses are expected to ship out soon though and arrive in the US in May.
